Below are some online sources for some of the harder-to-find materials used in this project. This list is by no means exhaustive, but we can say we've used all the suppliers listed and been satisfied with each.
Conductive Fabric
- LessEMF
Suppliers to the tin-foil-hat crowd! Turns out that EMF-blocking fabric does so by using embedded conductive metal (search for "Faraday cage" to get a lot of info on this). We use Zelt, which from our tests conducted best for the lowest price. Conductive fabric is expensive; but you usually need very little of it for any project. They also carry lots of other interesting stuff such as conductive ink (how cool would a silk-screened circuit be?) that warrants checking out.
Conductive Thread
- Lame Lifesaver
Sells a 200 yard spool for $15 - the site is geared towards fencing outfits so there's not much else there that's useful if you aren't a fencer. LessEMF also sells this for less per yard, but each spool has about 3000 yards and it costs $60.
Motors/Battery Holders
There are lots of places to get these. Most of these places also sell battery holders. Below are our favorites (search for pager motor or vibrator motor).
LEDs
- SuperBright LEDs
Many many other places online sell LEDs as well, including some of the electronics places listed above. We find that SuperBright has good prices and variety, although their website is a little difficult to work with. Note that the LEDs we supplied in this class are super brights, which have a bigger viewing angle and higher luminosity than regular LEDs.
