Tribbles and Veeblefetzers

Rachel McConnell and Annie Shao

Tribbles wiggle and Veeblefetzers light up. You can make either kind out of many different materials, but we would like to show you how to make soft squishy furry ones. Come to one of the workshops at Maker Faire on May 3 and 4, 2008, and learn how from Rachel McConnell and Annie Shao, 'Fetzers Extraordinaire.

We'll be holding holding two hour-long workshops a day. We will only working on tribbles this year.

Workshop times for both Saturday and Sunday:

We will provide all required materials: fun fur, backing fabric, LEDs, vibrator motors, conductive thread and conductive fabric, velcro, battery holders. We'll also have several sewing machines, hot glue guns, and soldering irons so you can get the whole thing made and take it away with you. To cover these costs there will be a charge of $10 per tribble at each workshop. This class is for ages 15 and up. Kids can sign up if accompanied by an adult.

This is a Tribble, masquerading as a sleeping cat. But if you hug it, it will purr and hum.

This is a Veeblefetzer, of the squeezable kind. It's a little faint in this picture - we're doctors, Jim, not photographers! - but the nose and eyes are all lit up.

This is another Veeblefetzer. It has a switch on its belly. All of these, and others, will be at the Maker Faire so you can play with them in person.

Here's another Tribble. Don't you want to press its nose?
